Welcome Message
Thank you for visiting our
web page. On behalf of the UT3 students, faculty, and staff, I would like to
welcome you to UToledo. UTeach. UTouch the Future (UT3). Being a teacher in our
nation’s urban school districts is one of the most challenging, yet most
rewarding careers one can pursue. Education is the bedrock of our democratic
society, and as a teacher you will be preparing citizens to lead productive
lives. If you want a meaningful profession, job security, the ability to work
throughout the country and impact the lives of our nation’s children, science or
mathematics teaching may be the perfect career choice for you.
Science and mathematics teachers play a critical role in
today’s society. The performance of students in science and mathematics is of
great concern in the United States since both disciplines are crucial for
today’s technologically oriented workforce. Many careers facing a shortage of
qualified applicants such as engineering, nursing, science and mathematics
teaching, and health professions, are highly dependent on well-educated students
in science and mathematics.
I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities
that the UT3 has to offer to you in becoming a science or mathematics teacher.
These opportunities include financial and professional support, but more
importantly, the College’s faculty and staff are dedicated to helping you
achieve academic success and providing you with the foundation to becoming an
exemplary teacher.
Our partner school districts also work closely with you to
help you achieve your career goals. UT3 students enrich their education and gain
professional experience by working in and out of the classroom throughout the
program. Students have early exposure to science or mathematics teaching in
urban schools by working with exceptional teachers in Toledo Public Schools and
urban Toledo Catholic Schools. Students tutor in area schools and learn by using
innovative technologies in today’s classrooms while completing their degree.
Thank you for your interest in UT3. I would like you to
consider the unique opportunities and advantages that UT3 offers to enrich your
education in science or mathematics teaching. We take great pride in our
nationally recognized science and mathematics programs and are committed to
preparing students to become outstanding teachers. I encourage you to explore
UT3; as a science or mathematics teacher you will touch the future.
Sincerely,

Charlene M. Czerniak
Professor & Director, UT3
